TFMA alum and filmmaker Kimi Takesue joins the Criterion Collection


Kimi Takesue celebrates the major career milestone of having her work added to the Criterion Collection, the film distribution company revered by cinephiles.

Filmmaker Kimi Takesue, TFM ’00, has marked the major career milestone of having her films added to the Criterion Collection, the film distribution company heralded by cinephiles. 

Her experimental, genre-spanning feature films are described by the Criterion Channel’s website as “visually mesmerizing,” placing “an unblinking lens on cross-cultural encounters, revealing the subtle tensions, curiosities and power dynamics that shape how we see and are seen across differences.”  

Temple's School of Theater, Film and Media Arts sat down with Takesue to learn more about why she was drawn to Temple’s filmmaking program, her relationships with faculty and how the skills and values she honed at Temple have shaped her hands-on creative process.
