Update on this afternoon’s TUalert

Posted

To the Temple Community,

This afternoon, around 3:30 p.m., the Temple University Police Department (TUPD) responded to reports of an armed robbery that occurred on the 1100 block of Montgomery Ave and quickly made an arrest. We are grateful for the efforts of our Temple Police Officers, who swiftly responded to the scene and were able to apprehend the suspect and recover the weapon.

Preliminary information indicates that a student was approached by an individual, who showed a gun and asked for the student’s backpack. Thankfully, the student cooperated and was not injured. Temple Police also recovered the student’s personal items at the point of arrest, and they have since been returned.

As we have shared before, our students’ safety and well-being are far more important than any possession. We remind members of our community to save Temple Police in your contacts: 215-204-1234. Temple Police should be the first call for an immediate safety concern or emergency on campus. We also encourage you to download the TUSafe app and confirm your phone number is registered for TUalerts.

Additional safety tips were recently shared with the university community. More information on the university’s safety resources can be found at safety.temple.edu.

Sincerely,

Denise Wilhelm
Interim Vice President for Public Safety and Chief of Police
