Why I chose Temple: “I was a transfer student from the Community College of Philadelphia in 1980. My first major was foreign language education because I wanted to teach Spanish. Then life happened. I needed to get a job because I had two sons to support. I was able to stay at Temple and got a position in the medical school admissions department at the Health Sciences Center. At the time, it was a temporary position because I was filling in for someone on maternity leave. The rest is history.”
Transformative Temple moment: “One day, when I was working as a receptionist in medical school admissions, my vice president came up to me and asked if I liked working there. Of course I said yes! She asked if I wanted to stay on permanently, and I’ve been here ever since. That was my Temple moment. Throughout more than 40 years, I’ve worked in several different offices. I’ve been in the Office of the Provost since January 1989. Barbara Brownstein was provost then. I’m also really proud to be finishing my degree that I started all those years ago.”
What’s next: “I’m not going anywhere. I’m going to continue my work at Temple. I am looking at getting my master’s next, maybe in human resource management. I also just took an employee workshop about AI in the workplace. I plan to always keep going forward. I’ll always be a lifelong learner.”
