Classes in the 2016 2017 academic year will begin one week later with the new schedule.
Students and faculty looking ahead will see changes to Temple s approved calendars for the 2016 2017 and 2017 2018 academic years. The changes will take effect at the beginning of the 2016 fall semester, set to begin on the last Monday of August a week later than in previous years. The later start also pushes back other important dates throughout the semester, such as add/drop deadlines, the first and last days of semesters, and Commencement.
Popular adjustments made last year including fall break during the week of Thanksgiving, Commencement on Friday and school/college graduation ceremonies on Thursday and Friday will remain the same.
Students can make the most of their breaks, summer jobs and internships over several years, said Provost Hai-Lung Dai. He also said that keeping Commencement a two-day celebration creates a stronger sense of community for the increasing number of families visiting from out of town.
Starting later in August is something that students were asking for, said Temple Student Government President Ryan Rinaldi, Class of 2016. They will have more time to spend with their friends and families and at work before heading back to school.
The schedules for the 2016 2017 and 2017 2018 academic years are posted on the Office of the University Registrar website.
