Title of Talk: A d-block oxidation story and an f-block structural story

Abstract: Our group has two areas of research, and this talk will include one story from each.  Transition metal complexes of fluorinated alkoxides have several distinct characteristics that have made them useful for studying C-H bond oxidations.  They tend to be high-spin (when possible), have ligands robust to oxidation, and are more water tolerant than many other potential oxidation catalysts.  I will present background in our published work with V and Mo, and then describe some unpublished chemistry with Ti.  In part II of the talk, I will describe a family of (mostly) unpublished heterobimetallic lanthanide compounds that contain {PtLn} donor-acceptor interactions, and are potential qubits.
