Elizabeth is John Dewey Distinguished University Professor of Philosophy and Women’s Studies at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she has taught since 1987. She is the author most recently of Private Government (How Employers Rule our Lives, and Why We Don’t Talk About It) (Princeton UP, 2017), and Hijacked: How Neoliberalism Turned the Work Ethic Against Workers, and How Workers Can Take It Back (Cambridge UP, 2023).
Abstract: Despite the claims of libertarians to defend universal liberty, the political economy of libertarian capitalism leads inexorably to authoritarian rule. Big Tech support for authoritarian leaders, far from contradicting libertarianism, is a fulfillment of its deep logic.
