What is a dye pot?
A community dye pot is a shared, large-scale textile dyeing opportunity to recycle and transform your clothing. When you arrive, we will help you to label your item and choose which of three natural colors (yellow, red, or indigo) you want to dye with. We will then put the item into your preferred dye bath, and you will be able to fetch it in the following days. An email will be sent out to you when your item is ready for pick up.
For the event:
Please bring 2-3 clothing options (one of which will be dyed). This will ensure that at least one of the items you bring can be dyed with our natural dyes. The items you bring must be made of natural fibers (linen, cotton, hemp, etc.), not synthetic fibers (polyester, nylon, etc.). Check the tag on your clothing to find out what your item is made of. If you aren't sure, you can look it up, or we can help you determine at the event. Preferably, the items should be light colored. This will give the best color results.
When and where is the event?
The dye pot will run on Friday, November 13th from 2-5. It will be held in the Tyler School of Art building in the Fibers department, room 250.
