This workshop introduces students to the importance of Philadelphia’s urban tree canopy and explores the connections between trees, environmental equity, and environmental justice. In response to recent microbursts and other climate-related hazards, participants will learn practical ways to care for street trees, respond to severe weather, and access city resources. The workshop will also highlight opportunities for community stewardship and civic engagement, including connections to Tree Tenders and other local tree-care initiatives. Leave with a better understanding of how urban trees support healthy, resilient communities and how you can be a good neighbor and active environmental steward on campus and throughout the city.
