Tyler School of Art and Architecture and The Fabric Workshop and Museum are pleased to co-host an artist conversation with Bay Area–based artists Josh Faught and Diedrick Brackens, presented in collaboration with Art History, the Queer Materials Lab, and Fiber Material Studies at Tyler School of Art.
Faught and Brackens will discuss their individual artistic practices and approaches to fiber, material, craft, and identity. Josh Faught is a fiber artist and educator whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses sculpture, textiles, collage, and painting. Drawing on techniques including knitting, crochet, and weaving, Faught’s work considers the intersections of craft, queer history, material culture, and personal and collective memory. Diedrick Brackens is an artist whose woven tapestries draw on the visual language and histories of textile traditions to explore Black and queer identity, mythology, intimacy, and belonging. His practice brings together historical and contemporary references through richly patterned and materially complex composition.
The conversation coincides with You Stretched Diagonally Across It: Contemporary Tapestry, an exhibition at The Fabric Workshop and Museum featuring the work of both artists. The exhibition is on view through January 3, 2027.
