Who Gets to Shape the Conversation? Using Classroom Video and Natural Language Processing to Understand Student Agency

In this talk, Associate Professor Bae will highlight findings of classroom talk patterns, with attention to how agency (or authority) as a sociocultural phenomenon is distributed among speakers. The implications for how teachers and classroom structures can create, or constrain, opportunities for students to meaningfully engage in their science learning will be discussed.
