Join us for an artist talk with Shawn Theodore, whose exhibition Before Another Name: A Photographic Archive of Black North Philadelphia, 2010–2020 documents a decade of life, change, and persistence in the neighborhoods surrounding Temple University. Drawing from years of photographing within the community, Theodore’s work captures not disappearance, but continuity—highlighting the people, spaces, and histories that endure amid rapid transformation.

The talk will take place from 3:30–4:30 PM in the Charles Library Gallery, followed by a reception from 4:30–6:30 PM in the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection. Guests are invited to continue the conversation and engage more deeply with the archive in the community it represents.
