Vladimir Angelov, “WHAT WE DANCE ABOUT TODAY: NEW CONTENT AND CREATIVE APPROACHES IN 21ST-CENTURY CHOREOGRAPHY

This presentation will provide information on the latest subjects of interest to choreographers worldwide, as well as new developments in dance dramaturgy and creative approaches.

A quick review of choreographic terminology will be displayed with PowerPoint diagrams. Then the presentation will discuss new content & topics in contemporary choreography:

• Reimagining traditional narratives in contemporary context.
• Instant composing: hyper-experimentalism and algorithmic choreographic improvisation.
• Art as activism: the politics and the dialogical dramaturgy of social justice and the environment.
• The surge of new content models, plots, and imagery of utopia, dystopia, and futurism.
• Dancing between cultures: trans-culturalism and migratory artistic identity.
• Trans-disciplinarity: the interaction of dance with other arts and sciences.
• Virtual moves: Artificial Intelligence, cyber creativity, and digital technology in choreography.

Short visual illustrations will include brief video clips and trailers displaying the dance work of Marcos Morau, Alexander Ekman, Crystal Pite, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Akram Khan, and others

Vladimir Angelov is an accomplished choreographer, published author and Founder and Executive Director of the International Choreography Organization and Networking Services – Dance ICONS, Inc., the global association and network for choreographers.
