Over the past two decades, we have seen an alarming rise in mental health distress and disorders. This trend has been observed across demographics and is particularly concerning and pronounced among young adults and adolescents.
While the cause of the current mental health crisis is multifactorial and complex, the social work profession is at the forefront of this urgent public health concern. Social workers provide the vast majority of mental healthcare and services, outnumbering all other professions in the interdisciplinary behavioral health workforce.
Professor Melissa Murphy will explore how the social work profession is uniquely situated to tackle this problem. This session will explore the rise in mental health concerns and examine how Temple University s School of Social Work program prepares students to engage in and respond to the current mental health crisis.
