One Bill, Many Consequences: Public Benefits in the Balance

At this Policy Roundtable event, we will explore the wide-ranging impacts of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act on critical public benefit programs, including SNAP, Medicaid, education access, the tax code, and beyond. Bringing together scholars from diverse disciplines, the discussion will unpack how the Act s provisions reshape access to essential resources for individuals and families and how these changes intersect with broader issues of equity, economic stability, and social mobility. Panelists will provide historical context, analyze policy implications, and examine both the intended and unintended consequences for communities across the country.

The event will feature:

Alice G. Abreu, Honorable Nelson A. Diaz Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Tax Law and Public Policy in the Beasley School of Law at Temple University.

Julia Hinckley, Director of Policy Strategy in the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania.

Jennifer M. Johnson, Associate Dean in the College of Education and Human Development.

Christina Roberto, Mitchell J. Blutt and Margo Krody Blutt Presidential Professor of Health Policy in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and Director of the Penn Center for Food and Nutrition Policy.

This event is cosponsored by the Master of Public Policy Program at Temple and the Population Studies Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
