Update on this morning’s TUalerts

To the Temple Community,

This morning, just before 4 a.m., the Temple University Police Department (TUPD) and Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) responded to a report of shots fired that occurred in the area of the 1700 block of Liacouras Walk.

Preliminarily, the investigation shows there was an altercation between two individuals, which led to one of the individuals firing a weapon. The two individuals then fled the scene. Thankfully, there were no injuries, and no members of the Temple community were involved in the incident.

Separately, Temple Police also responded to a report of a strong-armed robbery at 16th and Oxford just before 5 a.m. Two students were approached by an individual, who implied that he had a weapon and took their belongings.

We are grateful that neither student suffered physical injuries. As we have shared before, our students’ safety and well-being are far more important than any possession.

Anyone with information related to either incident is encouraged to contact Temple’s Investigations Unit at 215-204-6200 or Temple Police at 215-204-1234. You can also contact the PPD tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).

We encourage all students, faculty and staff members to become familiar with the university’s available safety resources. Information can be found at safety.temple.edu.

Sincerely,

Denise Wilhelm
Interim Vice President for Public Safety and Chief of Police
