Dear Students and Colleagues,
Today, at around 9:30 a.m., Temple University's Department of Public Safety, Temple’s fire marshals and the Philadelphia Fire Department responded to an accidental fire that occurred at 1938 Liacouras Walk, a building containing some administrative space. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
The sprinkler system in 1938 Liacouras Walk was activated, and there was some smoke and water damage to administrative offices located on the upper floors of the building. Affected employees in that building will be relocated while repairs can be made.
We thank the Philadelphia Fire Department for quickly responding and extinguishing the fire before it could impact other buildings. Currently, investigators are working to determine the cause. No businesses were impacted and will remain operational
Your safety is our priority. Please keep these fire safety tips in mind.
- Know your exits. In any building, familiarize yourself with the nearest exits, including in your residence hall, apartment and other campus buildings.
- Take every alarm seriously. Evacuate immediately when an alarm sounds, and do not reenter until authorities say it is safe.
- Keep exits clear. Never block hallways, stairwells or doorways.
- Report hazards. Call Temple University’s Department of Public safety about smoke, burning odors, damaged electrical equipment or other fire risks happening on campus. The number is 215-204-1234.
If you ever find a fire, activate the nearest alarm, leave immediately and call Temple Public Safety at 215-204-1234 or 911 as soon as you are safely outside.
