Jennifer Griffin to step down as vice president for public safety

Dear Students and Colleagues,

It is with gratitude for her years of tireless service that I write to share that Vice President for Public Safety Jennifer Griffin has decided to depart Temple University and begin a new chapter in her career. Her last day at the university will be June 30, 2026.

Over the past four years, Jennifer has led a period of significant change and improvement within the Department of Public Safety. Under her watch, the department made dozens of operational and technological enhancements, bolstered its partnerships with other law enforcement agencies and strengthened its engagement with the North Philadelphia community. Her efforts sharpened operational readiness while supporting a culture centered on wellness, professionalism and excellence.

Jennifer led the implementation of 78 recommendations from both the Violence Reduction Task Force and the safety audit conducted by 21CP Solutions. Thanks to her steadfast commitment to continuous improvement, all the recommendations from both reports are either fully completed or actively underway, and the Department of Public Safety is more prepared and better positioned for the future.

Importantly, Jennifer’s commitment to engaging students, parents, faculty, staff, community stakeholders and news media helped build trust and reinforce a broader understanding of public safety — one rooted not only in enforcement, but also in service, partnership, wellness and care.
As a result of her work at Temple, Jennifer was recognized by Campus Safety Magazine as the Campus Safety Director of the Year last summer. The distinction speaks to her tireless commitment and dedication in service to the Temple community.

I will be working closely with Jennifer in the days ahead to identify interim leadership for the department while we pursue a national search to permanently fill the position. On behalf of the entire university, I extend my sincere thanks to Jennifer for her dedication, vision and service. Her work has made Temple stronger and safer. While we will miss her leadership, we wish her continued success as she begins this next chapter of her career.

Sincerely,

John Fry
President
