Timely Warning

Posted

Dear Temple Community,

This is a timely warning that the university has received two credible reports alleging that an individual was peering into off-campus residential windows. Both incidents occurred yesterday, March 22, at a single location on the 1800 block of North 17th Street. Temple’s Department of Public Safety and the Philadelphia Police Department are investigating the incidents and working to identify the suspect. The individual is described as a heavyset Black male with shoulder length dreadlocks, wearing a red short-sleeve shirt, gray shorts, and white and black sneakers and seen leaving the area in an older model silver Nissan.

As these investigations are ongoing, we strongly encourage students with information or otherwise in need of support to contact

Any member of the Temple community or the public can also submit an anonymous report at helpline.temple.edu

When it comes to keeping safe, please keep these tips in mind.

  • Never prop exterior doors, and report suspicious individuals to Temple Police.
  • Always keep windows and doors secure with adequate locks. If a lock in your residence is broken, contact the landlord immediately.
  • Ensure or maintain good lighting at all entrances and keep porch lights on at night.
  • Keep your blinds or curtains closed after dark or while dressing.
  • Do not allow strangers into your room, residence hall, building or apartment.
  • Do not open your door unless you feel safe. Use the peephole installed in your front door.
  • If you don’t have a peephole, talk to the person through the door to validate that you know who it is before you unlock it.

As a reminder, the TUSafe app allows users to connect directly with Temple’s Department of Public Safety. More safety resources can also be found at safety.temple.edu
