To the Temple Community,
The arrival of spring and warmer weather brings with it more activity in and around campus and our surrounding neighborhoods. While this is typically a positive time for our campus, it can also bring an increase in large gatherings of juveniles. These juvenile meetups can be orderly gatherings, but there have been instances in the past when they have become disruptive.
Please know that your safety is our top priority. Our Department of Public Safety has been working closely with the Philadelphia Police Department to implement several focused and directed mitigation strategies.
It is important to understand that youth, like all individuals, have the right to be present in public spaces. However, unlawful behavior, including fighting, trespassing or disorderly conduct, will not be tolerated, and police officers will take appropriate enforcement action when necessary.
You can expect to see increased patrols, an expanded security presence and additional preventative measures designed to discourage large disruptive group gatherings. Our dispatchers will also closely monitor campus security cameras to ensure a quick response to any issues.
As a public university, we welcome everyone to our campus, and we take pride in that. We also take pride in the safe environment that we strive to provide for all.
As a reminder, you can help keep yourself, your friends and our community safer by utilizing the university’s resources.
