Dear Members of the Temple University Community,
It is with deep sadness that I write to share that Temple men’s basketball Assistant Coach Bill Courtney passed away suddenly.
In the short time that Coach Courtney was part of the Temple family, he made a meaningful impact on our men’s basketball program and on those around him. He brought great joy, energy and passion to his work, and that spirit was felt both on and off the court.
Beyond his accomplishments in the game of basketball, Coach Courtney was a respected colleague and a valued member of our community. His dedication to his student-athletes, his love for the game and his commitment to doing things the right way was evident to all who had the privilege of knowing, working with and being coached by him.
Our thoughts are with Coach Courtney’s family, his loved ones and the entire Temple basketball community as we grieve this loss together. We know that Coach Courtney’s passing will be felt deeply across the basketball and NCAA landscapes, as his career spanned decades and multiple institutions.
We recognize that moments like this can be difficult for many in our community, and we encourage anyone who may need support to take advantage of the resources available through the university.
Information regarding memorial arrangements will be shared when available.
Sincerely,
Arthur Johnson
