Update on shooting incident

Posted

Dear Students and Colleagues,

Around 5:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, a shooting victim was found inside the restroom of a restaurant located on the 1100 block of W. Montgomery Avenue. Temple University Police and Philadelphia Police responded quickly. Tragically, however, the juvenile victim did not survive.

The loss of life to gun violence is a profound tragedy and there are no words that can make sense of it. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones.

Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) is the lead investigative agency. The incident occurred in the restroom of the establishment between persons who entered the restaurant together. Through the use of Temple surveillance footage, we were able to determine that a person of interest fled the area immediately after the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact the PPD TIP Line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).

This is of course deeply upsetting and took place adjacent to our campus in a commercial establishment. We encourage students who are impacted to seek support through Tuttleman Counseling Services.

Students are also reminded to become familiar with the university’s available safety resources, such as the walking escort program and Flight shuttle service. More safety resources can be found at safety.temple.edu. Students are also encouraged to download and utilize the TUSafe app. Students can also call Temple Police any time by dialing 215-204-1234.

We will provide additional updates as appropriate.

Sincerely,

John Fry
