Dear Members of the Temple Community,
Since Dec. 4, Temple University representatives have met twice with representatives from the Temple University Graduate Students’ Association (TUGSA) to begin the process of contract negotiations. TUGSA’s current contract is set to expire on Feb. 15, 2026.
TUGSA members perform important duties for the university and serve in a unique role as part-time student employees. Over these first two sessions, the parties discussed union proposals and were able to agree in principle on some items. University representatives have communicated to TUGSA that the university is not asking its members to make any concessions in the current contract and instead wants to focus on increasing TUGSA wages. As we balance the significant financial constraints of the university, we are prepared to provide increased compensation that is competitive with the market.
We are committed to engaging in good faith negotiations. Our history of achieving fair contracts with the university’s 12 unions gives us confidence that we will reach a successful resolution with TUGSA. As always, we prioritize the best interests of the entire Temple community.
The next bargaining session will take place after winter break. To keep you informed, we have launched a web page that provides information related to the negotiations, and we will also be sending regular email communications.
For more about the start of TUGSA negotiations, see this Temple Now article.
Sincerely,
David Marino
Vice President and Interim Chief Operating Officer
